Some reasons i can think of are; Since it easily controlled it can facilitate using just what energy is needed, reducing waste. Perhaps not exactly related to conversation, but electricity is a convenient way to transport energy from things like wind turbines and large scale solar installations. Also it is possible (but expensive and not common yet) for large power stations to collect and sequester carbon dioxide, which would not be be practical for a small installation like a home heating furnace, then electricity can bring the power to the consumer. All these fuels are the products of mother earth. If we do not conserve exercise optimum use of these key resources we shall run short of them. Hence all over the world we are anxious of this shortage emphasize on energy conservation. Production of energy source (including electrical energy) is by consuming fossil fuels (coal, petrol petroleum products), bio mass (bagasse, straw, rice husk etc), nuclear materials (uranium, plutonium etc).
