Why you should order a Thyroid test.
A Thyroid test includes T3, T4, and TSH in the body. Circulating in the blood, T4 and T3 are bound and link to protein molecules. The unbound T3 and T4 represents the bodys thyroid levels. Thyroid levels represent active hormone present to act with receptors of cells in ones body.
In hypothyroidism, blood thyroid levels are low.. Excess TSH is released by the pituitary gland and thyroid levels of TSH rise. A Thyroid test determines hyperthyroidism which is a condition of too much blood thyroid hormone and the hypothalamus mandates the pituitary to cease releasing TSH. Due to a six week blood to test result period, thyroid function or abnormal thyroid hormone levels may appear normal. Because of this, an FT4 and FT3 thyroid level needs to be analyzed.
T3 is only produced in small amounts by the thyroid gland. In the liver, the majority of T3 present in the blood is made by conversion of T4 to T3.
